Monty Python’s Eric Idle Sings ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’ At Olympics Closing Ceremony

Monty Python’s Eric Idle Sings ‘Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life’ At Olympics Closing Ceremony

Monty Python Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life
It was just over two weeks ago since Mary Poppins Defeated Lord Voldemort and Queen Elizabeth II & James Bond Parachuted Into The Olympics Opening Ceremony, starting up the London 2012 Summer Games. And today, the London Summer Olympics came to a close, with performances by some of the most popular British artists, like George Michael, Annie Lennox, Queen, Oasis, The Who, and a reunion of The Spice Girls.
And while British music was appropriately represented in the ceremony, so was British humor, thanks to Eric Idle of Monty Python fame. Idle showed up at the event ready to be shot out of a cannon, but when that didn’t work out, the comedic actor, surrounded by performers dressed as nuns, led the crowd in a rendition of “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life,” a tune from the comedy troupe’s film Life Of Brian.
During the live performance, Idle kept in the line “Life’s a piece of shit, when you look at it,” which caught the NBC censors off guard (NBC live-streamed the the closing ceremony online first before broadcasting it on NBC television hours later), but they bleeped it out for the television broadcast.
Another entry for British humor was Del Boy and Rodney, characters from the British sitcom Only Fools and Horses, dressed as Batman and Robin coming out of a yellow Robin Reliant.
